Administratively, Sembilang National Park is a region Banyuasin Regency and Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra Province. the characteristics and location of the area of which is the waters. Area and zone management
The total area of Sembilang National Park reaches 267,373.9 hectares of which is clasified into 6 six management zones. Those zones are the core zone area of 83,184,798 hectares, forest zone area
105,727.81 hectares, use zone 2,497,818 hectares, zone rehabilitation of 5,477,014 hectares, traditional zone covering an area 5,477,014 hectares and a special zone of 4,083,641 hectares.
The largest mangrove forest in Western Indonesia
There are several types of habitats in Sembilang National Park. Namely mangrove forests, swamps and mudflats. With an area of 87,000 hectares, the mangrove forest in Sembilang National Park
is the largest in western Indonesia.
There are no less than 53 species of mammals.Like an otter (Lutra lutra) honey bear (Helarctos malayanus), mangrove cat (Felis bengalensis). There are also clouded leopards (Neofelis nebulosa), Sumatran tigers (Panthera Tigris Sumatrae), water weasel (Cynogale Bemetti), and pig (Sus Srofta).
There are at least five primate species including ungko (Hylobates agilis), long-tailed macaque (Масаса fascicularis), beruk (Mnemestrina) and gray langur (Presbytis cristata).
In addition there are 213 species of birds, 112 species found in the area mangroves and 44 types of them use mangroves as habitat main.
From the results of the 2016-2018 study, there were 28 species of migratory waterbirds.Around 80,000 birds can be found every day in the Banyuasin Delta. Among these are Bluwok (Mycteria cinerea), Tongtong storks (Leptoptilos javanicus), iron tips (Threskiornis melanocephalus), storm herons (Ciconia stormy), Sumatran Cangak (Ardea Sumatrana), Hornbill Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), Helmet Hornbill (Rhinoplax Virgil), Black Hornbill (Antrhacoceros Malayanus), Eastern Curlery (Numenius Madagascariensis), virgin sea (Sternidae), plover (Charadrius), blue sea (Limosa) and kedidi (Calidris).
Recorded reptiles found estuarine crocodiles (Crocodylus Porosus), crocodiles sinyulong (Tomistoma Schlegelii), gold-ring snake (Boiga Dendrophila) and rice snakes (Python).
