PALEMBANG, GESAHKITA com South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru reaffirmed that Palembang Sriwijaya Jakabaring Gelora Stadium is ready to host the U-20 World Cup in 2021.
That was said while reviewing the preparation of the Jakaaring Sriwijaya Stadium, Palembang City capital of South Sumtra, province in southern part Sumatra Island, Sunday (6/28).
As informed, Stadium Gelora Sriwijaya Jakabaring was chosen along with five other stadiums, such as ; the Bung Karno (GBK) Jakarta, Si Jalak Harupat Bandung, Manahan Solo, Gelora Bung Tomo Surabaya, and I Wayan Dipta Gianyar Bali which were proposed to FIFA to become Host of the U-20 World Cup.
Earlier FIFA has set up 6 Indonesian region to host the games, however if it will be changed into 4 Indonesian regions only, so the chances for Jakabaring confidently is more, since Jakabaring is the only stadium out of Java Island.
“We hope that FIFA policy will remain in 6 regions, even if it is made into 4 regions, South Sumatra will be one of them, because this South Sumatra represents outside Java,” Governor said.
The preparations carried out thoroughly how is the field like, the training facilities and other infrastructures as well as aspects of the games supporting the U-20 World Cup.
“We’ve already prepared for fields for training, other supporting facilities, ” Governor mentioned.
In this preparation there is certainly no obstacle for the South Sumatra Provincial Government.
Just only considering that the Covid-19 Pandemic period is still a number of things that must be done both in the economic and health as well as social interaction, as for health protocols advices along with a new normal adaptation.
He hopes that if the U-20 World Cup later in South Sumatra, this will have a big impact, even with the presence of the games.
“Altough covid-19 which has hit South Sumatra, now is expected that this event will be a good impact for community, particularly for the fields of economy, tourism and others,” Governor stated. (*)
