Pujakesuma Supports Fort Kuto Besak Back as a Cultural Heritage

PALEMBANG, GESAHKITA COM–The news that many parties want that the Kuto Besak Fort (BKB) Palembang to be opened to the public as a tourist destination or as a center for learning the history of the greatness of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate has received support from the Java Sumatran Family Association Community (Pujakesuma)

This was conveyed by Hernoe Roepriadji, a South Sumatran community leader who is also the  Head of the South Sumatra Pujasuma, Saturday (28/08/2021).

Hernoe assessed that the culture of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate was very important to be preserved and taught to future generations, moreover, according to him, many authentic physical evidences were found.

“The culture of the Palembang Sultanate is very important to be preserved and taught to future generations, not only the culture that is inherited but also authentic evidence in the form of physical buildings ,  said Hernoe.

From the observations of Hernoe, who is known to be close to the elders and traditional people of Palembang, in South Sumatra in general and Palembang in particular, there are quite a lot of original heritages that should not be allowed to be of less value.

Furthermore, Hernoe explained that there are 3 physical buildings which are the original heritage of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate and are not relics of Dutch or Japanese colonial colonialism in Palembang, the first is the Great Mosque, Tengkurep Crater and the last is the Kuto Besak Fort .

” Judging from historical facts, there are 3 buildings which are original relics of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate and not the result of Dutch or Japanese colonial rule in Palembang, the first is the Great Mosque, Tengkurep Crater and the last is the Kuto Besak Fort (BKB) ,” said Hernoe

However, on this occasion, Hernoe also conveyed a bit of anxiety over one of the assets of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, namely the Kuto Besak Fort which is currently still closed, even though it is the most important asset in the history of the city of Palembang.

“It’s quite unfortunate that there is still one asset inherited from the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate that still cannot be enjoyed by the public and access is closed, even though BKB is the most important asset in the history of the city of Palembang,” said Hernoe.

At the end of the conversation, Hernoe as a community leader, Pujasuma, conveyed his support for returning BKB to be opened to the public and used as a learning center and a historical tourist destination that would soon be realized.

“Pujasuma, of course, strongly supports the discourse of returning BKB, which can be opened to the public and used as a learning center and a historical tourist destination that will soon be realized,” concluded Hernoe (Irfan)
