PALEMBANG, GESAHKITA COM – The South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office held the 2021 Sriwijaya Coffee and Culinary Fest at the Sriwijaya Royal Archaeological Park, Monday (27/9) on Cempako Island, Sriwijaya Royal Archaeological Park (TPKS) Gandus, Palembang.

The event was also attended by the Sultan of Palembang Darussalam, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) IV Jaya Wikrama RM Fauwaz Diradja, SH MKn, Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H Herman Deru, Kapolda Sumsel, Inspector General of Police Drs Toni Harmanto MH, Pangdam II Sriwijaya Maj. SMB IV considers this event to be an important event to introduce the coffee world from South Sumatra which has been inferior to coffee from other provinces.

“We need to promote coffee from South Sumatra, the mechanism is only for the governor himself to regulate, we agree that coffee is a wealth of biodiversity belonging to South Sumatra of which must be promoted because it only exists in South Sumatra,” he said.

SMB IV admitted that he had tasted the coffee served by the committee, which he considered good coffee and had a distinctive taste.

“But many people don’t know how to process and drink good coffee,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru hopes that this activity can revive the tourism sector and coffee farmers in South Sumatra.

“Hopefully this event can grow the economy in the tourism sector, including Small  Medium Enterprise (SME) in the coffee sector to be more competitive in the world in introducing South Sumatra specialty coffee to all regions in Indonesia,” said Deru after reviewing SME coffee activists at Taman Purbakala Taman Sriwijaya.

The potential of coffee in South Sumatra, added Deru, is very large in supporting economic growth. Therefore, coffee is one of South Sumatra’s mainstays for export abroad. And in Indonesia alone, coffee from South Sumatra is the largest producer, reaching 22 percent of coffee shipments abroad.

“We should all be proud because South Sumatra is the largest coffee exporter in Indonesia,” he said.

The action of planting trees in the Sriwijaya Royal Archaeological Park area in commemoration of Tourism Day was carried out with the South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Toni Harmanto, and the Head of Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative Hari Widodo.

Meanwhile, Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar), Aufa Syahrizal SP MSc added, this activity was to commemorate the 27th world tourism day. At the same time introducing one of the tourist attractions in South Sumatra, namely the Sriwijaya Royal Archaeological Park in the Gandus District of Palembang.
