PRABUMULIH, GESAHKITA COM—The explosion occurred at Gas Compressor Station (SKG) 1, Kemang Tanduk Village, Rambang Kapak Tengah District, Prabumulih City, South Sumatra , Monday (9/5) at around 06.10.
Two people were injured in the incident.
According to information gathered, it is suspected that the gas pipe exploded due to a leak. The pipe located behind the fence between Pertamina EP Limau Field’s operating facilities and PT Titis Sampurna suddenly exploded. Two residents, known to be a married couple, were passing to tap rubber around the site when the explosion was injured.
The sound of a loud explosion caught the attention of local residents so that black smoke rose high and could be seen from a distance.
Shortly after the incident, Pertamina’s Emergency Response team immediately went to the location to extinguish the fire.
Prabumulih Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Siswandi said his party was still investigating the cause of the explosion. Pertamina is also investigating the cause of the explosion.
“The fire that appeared after the explosion could be handled one hour after the explosion. Two residents who were victims were at Pertamina Hospital for treatment,” said Siswandi
He said the pipe that exploded was outside the SKG area and was on the side of a public road. The victims are a married couple who are residents of Patih Galung Village, West Prabumulih District. Both crossed to tap the rubber, but suffered burns from the explosion.
“Because it’s Pertamina’s homework, there might be a leaking pipe and so on because of the hot weather so it exploded. Pertamina’s investigation was carried out directly,” he said.
Meanwhile, Senior Manager Relations of Pertamina Subholding Upstream Regional Sumatra Yudy Nugraha said that his party was investigating the cause of the fire.
“The fire was extinguished at around 08.00. The location of the incident has been installed with a barrier to prevent unauthorized parties from entering the area,” said Yudy.
The operation of SKG 1 was actually not disrupted because the fire occurred in the area between the PHR Zone 4 and Titis Sampurna facilities. Meanwhile, two residents who became victims are still being treated at Pertamina Prabumulih Hospital
“We are concerned and sympathize with the two victims. Pertamina and Titis Sampurna will be fully responsible for treatment until they recover. The plan is to be referred to RSMH Palembang Hospital for more intensive treatment,” he said.
