Dulmuluk Jazz Cancels Performance at the “Suara Musi 2024” International Jazz Festival, Local Artists Are Disappointed

PALEMBANG, GESAHKITA COM— The highly anticipated performance of Dulmuluk Jazz by Sanggar Harapan Jaya and its accompanying orchestra was canceled during the Suara Musi 2024 International Jazz Festival. The decision sparked deep disappointment among the local artists, who had prepared extensively for the event.

“We’re extremely disappointed. Transforming Dulmuluk into a jazz performance was no easy task. This festival was supposed to be a significant opportunity to showcase the creativity of local artists to an international audience,” said Randi, a representative of the team.

Randi further expressed frustration over the frequent changes to their scheduled performance. Initially set for 7:00 PM, their slot was repeatedly delayed, eventually being postponed until after the speech by the Acting Governor. “We sacrificed time and effort to prepare for this. It wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment performance; it took dedication and hard work,” he added.

He also criticized the event organizers for prioritizing international musicians over local talent.

“Inviting someone like Fariz RM is fine, but songs like Aku Malu Aku Malu belong more at wedding receptions while eating chicken stew, not at an international festival that promotes local culture,” he remarked with disappointment.

Randi hopes future festivals will genuinely provide a platform for local artists to shine. Dulmuluk Jazz, a unique blend of traditional Palembang theater and jazz music, is an innovative art form that deserves recognition and exposure on the international stage.

This incident serves as a valuable lesson for event organizers to better appreciate and prioritize local artistry, ensuring it takes center stage in line with the festival’s theme.
