BANYUASIN, GESAHKITA COM– Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru , and the Regent of Banyuasin, H. Askolani, inspected the development and construction points of the Tanjung Carat port area, Sungsang IV, Banyuasin Regency, using a PK-US0 helicopter. This following-up inspection aims to survey location points by air, as well as seeing the development of the area which will later become an international port, as one of the strategic factors supporting the development of the economic sector in South Sumatra, especially in Banyuasin Regency.
“This is the starting point for economic progress, in Bumi Sedulang Setudung,” said the Regent of Banyuasin, H. Askolani.

The Regent of Banyuasin said that today’s follow-up activities will look at several points for the construction of Tanjung Carat Port by air. The point has previously been determined, which will be the initial basis for making this port stand. Previously, this port was targeted for construction in 2021, starting with administration, funding and physical implementation of the port.
“Following the survey of the coordinate points that are the points of the Tanjung Carat port, it is estimated that the target in 2023 the port will be completed and inaugurated,” he explained.
From previous information, this port will also be integrated with the Kapal Betung Toll Road on the Musi Pait River, and from Musi Pait directly to the Tanjung Carat Port. Where the construction of this new port is very important, to support trade activities throughout the Province of South Sumatra, which many regions have superior commodities such as coal, liquid bulk, rubber, fertilizer.
Especially Banyuasin Regency, in terms of rice farming and egg production sector, which is the biggest contributors in Indonesia. At the point where the port was built in Tanjung Carat that it has been declared feasible study to build, because it has met three criteria, including having sufficient water depth of 12-18 meters, so that large ships can stop by.
Then the location of the area is affordable and the last one is declared feasible because of the availability of land, so from this conclusion, it is ready for port construction.
From additional information obtained by the Banyuasin Regency Communications and Information Office, when the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, the Governor of South Sumatra, and the Regent of Banyuasin, H. Askolani held a coordination meeting at Griya Agung, it was planned that the port to be built in Tanjung Carat would become a goods distribution center. and logistics,
which will focus on replacing the Boom Baru Port, which according to the report, can no longer be developed because of its location in the middle of the city. Moreover, the Boom Baru area has experienced sedimentation, so that large ships can no longer dock, and later the Boom Baru port will be converted from a loading and unloading port of goods, to become a passenger port.(eng/rill )
